Bee bread (Perga)
Bee bread (Perga)
What is Perga? 🐝
Perga , also known as bee bread, is a fascinating bee product developed for bees to overwinter. The bees collect pollen in their pollen bags, preserve it with bee saliva, and press it into honeycombs. These are then coated with propolis to protect them from bacteria and fungi. The result is a nutrient-rich, fermented bee product that serves as a source of protein for the bees during food shortages.
Fermentation means fermentation by enzymes that break down nutrients and make them easier to use. Fermented products promote healthy intestinal flora and support the elimination of toxins. In Ayurvedic medicine, fermented products have long been used as medicinal remedies.
What’s in bee bread?
Perga consists of high-quality protein, sugar, unsaturated fatty acids, secondary plant substances such as flavonoids and phenolic acids as well as important trace elements and fiber.
durability
Organic Perga stays fresh for up to 1.5 years when stored dry.
use
Perga goes perfectly with dairy products such as yoghurt and quark, refines muesli and can be used as a topping for desserts. It is also delicious on its own.
Test a small amount before first use to avoid possible allergic reactions.
